Linda-Marie Singer catches the sunbeams at the new Sheraton Israel in the Dead
|DEAD SEA, Israel: We all have our hotel favorites and I'm not shy about saying
mine. In the Holy Land, it's been the Moriah hotel chain. Whether you kept company with
them in Tel Aviv, the Dead Sea, Jerusalem, Tiberias or Eilat, one thing is decidedly
unique about all Moriahs - they're Israeli in style, character, and appeal.
now on, the Moriahs will be known as the Sheraton Israel, the largest international chain
in Israel. Approaching the year 2000, there will be a new mark of luxury for travelers
with the Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. This name should be familiar as
they own many of the world's leading brands of hotels.
Along with the famous Sheraton,
there's also Westin, The Luxury Collection, Four Points, W, and Caesars. Today Starwood
joins forces with Koor Industries, a top Israeli company, to acquire the Radisson Moriah
for $76 million.
You can keep all the ultra modern structures cropping up all over the
country. What they have in common are papier mache walls and overpriced art collections.
Take what has happened in the Dead Sea. You'll find places like the Nirvana, a Las Vegas
style venue; right next door is the Moriah Plaza Dead Sea hotel humming with a friendly
staff, delicious food, all the while extolling the virtues of the Dead Sea's healing
For those business travelers who like to keep up with Who's Who, Bob Cotter is the
European President and COO of Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc., while Ron
Feinstein is the company's chairman in Israel. Eli Gonen serves as General Manager of the
new company. The buzz is that overnight they now become the country's leading hotel chain
with a variety of four and five star deluxe hotels and resorts. Located in key
destinations across Israel, the chain numbers 12 hotels with 3200 rooms.
For those searching for true luxury in the land of the Bible, isn't it nice to know your
search is over.
