New Tusisian Airport to be Ready by 2004

A new airport is to be built in the centre-eastern part of Tunisian as part of an overall program to promote airport infrastructure in the country trough the upgrading of existing airports and the building of new ones.

The contract for the technical study related to the building of an airport in the Enfidha region was signed Monday, by Habib Allegue, President and Managing Director of the Tunisian Airport Authority (OACA), and Yves Cousquer, President and Managing director of the "Aéroports de Paris" (ADP) group.

When completed, the new facility will have a total capacity of 30 million passengers and will cover an overall surface of 6,500 hectares. But in the initial stage, this capacity will be limited to five million travelers. Due to be completed June 2004, the Enfidha Airport will have an estimated cost of 300 million dinars. Building works are to cover a three-year period. The feasibility study will last for 16 months and will cost some 12 million dinars.
