"One Hundred and One Beautiful Towns in France,"
"Alfred Stieglitz New York," "Caribbean Hideaways"

For holiday gift giving to yourself or to someone else, a trio from Rizzoli should definitely be on your list. Beautiful, informative, sensibly priced for what you get, representing travel and leisure and history interests  - - "One Hundred and One Beautiful Towns in France," "Alfred Stieglitz New York," "Caribbean Hideaways" - - fill the bill.

"One Hundred and One Beautiful Towns in France" by Yvon Busson and Rene Gast ($50.00, 280 pages, 300 color photographs) not only has a detailed appendix of restaurants, hotels and shops. It is a book intelligently organized by region from Alsace to Normandy to Rhone-Alps. Page after page of images  meld with explanations and celebrations of the art of dining a la francaise!  A GEM.

"Alfred Stieglitz New York" by Bonnie Yochelson (Skira/Rizzoli $25.00, 96 pages, 65 b&w photographs) is the first book devoted solely to the master photographer's work. The book is as valuable for the amazing images Stieglitz produced as it is for the narrative explaining how he raised public awareness making people realize photography is an art form. A KEEPER.

"Caribbean Hideaways “by Meg Nolan van Reesema with photos by Jessica Antola ($50.00, 208 pages, 250 color illustrations) is as its sub-title proclaims about "Discovering Enchanting Rooms and Private Villas."  We are there at the Ian Fleming Vila, Jade Mountain, at Steel Point in Tortola, British Virgin Islands and at Itopia in Jamaica. No cruise ships here, no mass tourism, no crap culture – just serenity, magic and enchantment. BRAVO.

HIGHLY NOTABLE: “Saul Bellow Letters” edited by Benjamin Taylor (Viking, $35.00, 571 pages)is truly a  literary milestone or as its jacket blurb  states “the life of a master told in letters.” All kinds of letters written over Bellow’s long life are here on these pages – beautifully written and filled with wisdom.
