The Onyx Hotel

By: Kellie K. Speed

If you haven’t stayed in a Kimpton Hotel yet, you don’t know what you are missing. The Onyx Hotel in Boston offers an ideal setting adjacent to both the North End’s fabulous eateries as well as upscale Beacon Hill.  If you are coming into town to catch a Bruins game or a concert at the nearby TD Banknorth Garden, this is the place to stay.

The 112 guest rooms and suites at this pet-friendly property offer comfortable accommodations and four-star level of services and amenities. When you first enter the lobby of the hotel, pets are greeted with a bowl of water and sampling of treats. Guests may check in around the corner in the main lobby where the complimentary nightly wine hour is held just outside of the hotel’s Ruby Room restaurant.

The funky décor of the hotel offers everything from red suede chairs to leopard print bathrobes while amenities include complimentary high-speed wireless Internet access, in-room spa services and even complimentary morning luxury town car service to Boston’s financial district.

As more and more hotels are becoming pet friendly, they also offer weight restrictions and size limitations for dogs. The Kimpton brand happily allows dogs of all sizes so we treated our bulldog to an overnight stay at the property.

The boutique hotel also features The Britney Spears Foundation room. The Britney Spears Foundation room is located on the Hotel's 10th floor and has been designed by her mother, Lynne Spears to resemble the star's bedroom at home in Kentwood, Louisiana. The Foundation Room can be booked for $349 per night, and 10 percent of room revenues support the annual Britney Spears Camp for the Performing Arts, and other Foundation activities.

Britney fans can be delighted with the replica of the pop singer's bedroom, its whimsical colors, furnishings, 42-inch plasma TV and some of her framed platinum records and curios from her personal collection.

The cozy 45-seat Ruby Room serves a European style breakfast buffet from 7:00 a.m. to 10a.m, $11.95 weekdays, 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. weekends and is open for dinner and drinks from 5:00 p.m. until 11:30 p.m., Sunday through Thursday, and until 1:30 a.m. on Friday and Saturday.
