We were at the great Grand Del Mar Hotel and Golf
Resort in San Diego some months ago and being treated to some golf
play and also some superb coaching by the pro there Erik Wilson who
admitted to picking up his first club when he was seven years old.
Golfing and being on a golf course gives one a
real opportunity to engage in lots of talk. And part of Erik’s
commentary was about Port St. Lucie’s PGA Village.
Some months later we wound up at PGA Village.
Harvey was scheduled for a talk on his new book - -REMEMBERING
FENWAY PARK: AN ORAL AND NARRATIVE HISTORY OF THE HOME OF THE BOSTON
In the process of being there we were able to see
firsthand the wonders of this state of the art facility that has
something for everyone - -the Erik Wilsons of the world who come to
refine their games and the Frommers of the world who want to just
learn a thing or two and soak up the atmosphere, historical,
And we saw firsthand why the large facility owned
and operated by the PGA of America is ranked among the “75 Best Golf
Resorts” by Golf Digest.
Beautifully maintained, aesthetically over the
top, enhanced by the latest in technology of all kinds, PGA World is
truly a universe onto itself of all things golf. There are Golf
Schools Stay and Play Packages, Golf Clinics, Fitness Programs,
The Golf Learning and Performance facility is 35 acres – and it
has it all.
And most important to most people who come down to
this Florida paradise are the 54 holes of Championship Golf designed
by Tom Fazio and Pete Dye. The three championship courses were
created give golfers the ultimate sporting experience and to envelop
golfers in a protected species peaceful and serene environment of a
430-acre wildlife sanctuary.
And for those who want just a little bit of the
golf experience -- the PGA Golf Club® has a 6-hole short-game
And for a break from all the physical activity –
there is also the PGA Museum of Golf with displays and videos and
memorabilia to savoir and treasure and learn from.
If you are a skilled player or a beginner, if you
want to soak up the sun and the quality of life – PGA Village is
truly a golf heaven and haven.
