“Dave The Potter” and “Everything but the Horses”

The Children's Book Review

From Little Brown Books for Young Readers come a couple of intriguing tomes - “Dave The Potter” written by Laban Carrick Hill illustrated by Bryan Collier and “Everything but the Horses” by Holly Hobbie,  both $16.99. Both books are imaginative, superbly illustrated and driven by strong and important narratives.

“Dave The Potter” focuses on a slave with a unique talent, a slave who was an historic figure in South Carolina in the 1800s. Dave’s pottery today is valued and displayed in top museums all  across the USA. Some of his works were inscribed with his own superb poems.  HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

“Everything but the Horses” is a work in soft, tawny shades told as it is by Holly Hobbie about a child’s memory of her family moving to the country. Straight out of the author’s rural childhood, this book is moving and marvelous. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
