Raves for Rizzoli Books: “French Country Style at Home,”
“Old Homes of New England,” “ Henry Moore,” Hopper,”

The Book Review

A new quartette of terrific tomes from one of the classiest publishers anywhere is now available for your reading and browsing pleasure. All the books are a treat for the mind and the eyes.

“French Country Style at Home” with text and images by Sebastien Siraudeau  (Rizzzoli/Flammarion, $34.95, 207 pages) is a tour of 23 places that blend the contemporary with the vintage. We are taken to an upgraded  17th century family home,  a renovated mill in Brittany, a farmhouse in Alsace, and more  - - all interiors and exteriors to be bemused by.  A LOVE OF A BOOK

Not to be out-done there is “Old Homes of New England” text by Roderic H. Blackburn with photos by Geoffrey Gross (Rizzzoli, $55.00, 256 pages). In lush and haunting colors, two dozen architectural gems of New England are displayed, discussed and defined.  From the Henry Whitfield House in Guilford, Connecticut (1639) to the “more modern” Joseph Fessenden House in Royalton, Vermont (c. 1801) – there is much to savor and much to admire.  Our favorite is the Shaker Meeting House, Canterbury, New Hampshire, 1792 - - purity personified.  MOST NOTABLE

“Henry Moore” edited by Chris Stephens (Skira/ Rizzoli, $50.00, 240 pages) is a complete, complex, captivating look at the world and work of the great artist. Page after page of images, analysis and commentary do much justice to Moore, one of the great ones. The book has a special focus on his early and mid-career. An illustrated chronology is a special winning feature of “Henry Moore.” MUST OWN

One of the most celebrated of all American artists, Edward Hopper now has a book (Skira/ Rizzoli, $80.00, 280 pages) that truly showcases his genius and range. An illustrator, a printmaker, a painter -  a devotee of films, Hopper’s images are imprints across time – revealing and rewarding. This is a book with range, with attitude, with wonder. JUST EXCELLENT
