||The Irish rock band, The Saw Doctors, are back in the US
on tour with their first appearance this year at the Musikfest in
The eight-member crew will be playing at the South Shore Music Circus in Cohasset on August 17
and the Cape Cod Melody Tent in Hyannis on August 19. From there, they will visit Vermont, New Jersey and New
York before ending their three-week tour at the Irish Summerfest in Cleveland, Ohio.
The band adopted the name “Saw Doctors,” which are travelers who earned money by sharpening saws in Ireland. They liked the name but thought it would be just temporary
until they found one they liked better. The leader of the popular Irish band, The Waterboys, asked them to support his
band while on tour in the UK. Shortly after, the Saw Doctors’ single “I Useta Lover” became the #1 song in Ireland for
nine weeks, making it the country’s biggest selling single of all time.
The Saw Doctors’ nationalistic approach to songwriting discusses the plight of Ireland’s unmarried mothers, joining the army, life
on the road and drug addictions.
They have since received an award for Best New Band at the Irish Entertainment Awards. Last
year, the band spent most of the year writing and recording their fifth
album, Villains, which will be released next month.
