yogini - Debra Rodman's Versatile Fashions

By: Kellie K. Speed

Yogini's Buddha Bells (shown here) are available in baby pink, gray or white and are machine washable.

The ribbon and lace bell-bottom hip huggers are ideal for traveling while many of the other products are perfect for working out. They retail for approximately $100.

Yogini’s fashion line offers versatile and feminine pieces that are exquisitely designed by Rodman. She created this line after discovering there are not many stylish and hip clothes available for travelers to wear.

“When I travel I like to carry my own identity, individuality, and culture with me,” Rodman said. “When I go to exotic lands, indigenous people get a kick out of seeing travelers in their own gear. They covet it and at times I have given away clothes, hair clips, make-up bags and general stuff that we take for granted much to the delight of teen age girls. I never wear the costumes of the lands I visit. To me, the challenge has always been to merge into other cultures but to bring along my own. As an American who has grown up outside America, I had always longed to be a part of the culture of America - rock n' roll, films, politics, and fashion.”

Rodman has clearly created a unique product line, which embraces the aesthetics of the sophisticated traveler. Raised in London, Brazil, New York, Hong Kong, Japan, and Switzerland, as well as traveling extensively through Nepal, Tibet, India, Africa, Morocco, Italy, and France, her designs reflect some of the best pieces fashion has had to offer and improves upon them. The collection, designed exclusively in 100% cotton, cotton Lycra, and cotton fleece, is hand-dyed and embroidered in colors chosen primarily from Buddhist thank as and art.

Rodman’s desire is to create a collage of universal symbols in a language unspoken through words and she has done just that.
