Amazing AirTran Airways: Getting Better All the Time
A speaking engagement for “Remembering Yankee Stadium” at
the Miami Book Fair. A need to get back and forth from New York City
with as little discomfort as possible.
The logical move - - Business Class on AirTran from
LaGuadia Airport to the Sunshine State. We had flown America’s top low
cost airlines before in Business Class and luxuriated in the lengthy
legroom, comfortable two-by-two seats, privacy, even free adult drinks.
It was a terrific plan: a carrier sporting low fares,
EasyFit Overhead Bins, and a highly affordable Business Class available
as an upgrade from any fare class on a first-come, first- served basis.
But as the saying goes . . . “the best laid plans of
mice and men often go astray.”
Rain was everywhere on a gloomy Friday morning in
November in the Big Apple. We missed our flight. No fault of AirTran
Airways - - just the weather.
Hours after our scheduled departure time we finally
boarded a different flight arranged for us by airlines personnel. It was
a bumpy but safe journey to Atlanta for a connecting flight.
Again weather problems: fog, drizzle and terrible
visibility all over the Atlanta area. Our connecting flight had already
departed. We had a long, long wait finally arriving in Miami early
Saturday morning. Instead of getting in at one P.M. Friday, it was 2
Through all the aggravations, the delays, the
frustrations – all personnel we dealt with from AirTran – were
pleasant, competent, caring. It was an example of “Amazing AirTran
Airways: Getting Better All the Time.”
And it was better returning to New York a few days
later. The sun was shining, the plane left on time, and the descent over
the narrows with a perfect view of the Statue of Liberty just as the sun
was setting was memorable.
AirTran's mission statement to "Be the best in
everything we do every day" is met big-time.
2008 marks the 15th birthday of AirTran Airways
A very HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
We look forward to flying this special airline again.
