The Perfect Holiday
three days in a suite looking out on a crystal clear lake below rocky or snow
covered mountains, that seemed to reach for the clouds. At night, as the
mountains darken, glittering lights flicker near the water.
It’s like living
in a dream and the thousands of visitors who come here often is a testament to
its beauty and serenity.
Our hotel was
the Hotel Beauregard, arranged by the Tourist office,
True, it’s a
touristy, overpriced place, where Swiss people come for their holidays, but I
know no other place and offers as much as this once quaint town that is growing
We checked into
our lakeside hotel and I savoured my cold drink as I took in the spectacular
view. Three star hotels have it all. There's a lift, air conditioning, parking
and a covered balcony. Yes, the price is right and I look forward to a cool ,
June night. A walk in the busy streets of the old town was a feast for the eyes,
with restaurants, bars an d parks filled with visitors from many lands. At one
bridge we discovered a nice young Russian man, able to converse in English. He
was one of the street artists and we got into a discussion. Vladimir Pavleev
and his wife offered art at a reasonable price and I can never say no to
promising artists. What I will take home is the perfect souvenir. If you are in

guided tours of the old town or boat rides on the shinny lake. Ice cream is king
and there are children everywhere. Even a slow drive around the lake is a
positive event, even with bumper bumper traffic at times.
Shopping bargains… next to Palais de I’lle (old prison)
is strange. It’s certainly a small world. This weekend we are going to
see friends in Culoz where Gertrude Stein once lived. But as we walked
in the old city, we were reminded that our friend’s son; a doctor in
Annecy was expecting a call from us. lo and behold, my wife looked down
at a young couple, and there was the young doctor, Arnaud, having dinner
with a friend. He was the only person we knew, and there he was. We'll
dine with him tomorrow at our hotel
Annecy has changed but there are so many things to remember.

walking city. Parking is another story.

Over the past few years, Professor
Greenberg has traveled with groups to France, Italy, Spain, Greece,
Budapest, Vienna, Salzburg, Prague and both Sorrento and the Bay of
Naples plus most of Sicily. His tours traveled to the far reaches of the
globe including Italy and most of
China (Beijing -Hong Kong) and to Russia where his group cruised the waters
from St.Petersburg to Moscow.

winter in Argentina or San Miguel Mexico. His newly found spare time

Arnie now travels with friends. He continues writing
Travel articles about unusual places but often concentrates on novel
writing. Two books based on French Art will be published this year.
