For me, a romantic trip to the Big Apple begins with checking in at the Fitzpatrick Grand Central Hotel, one block from the restored Grand Central Station. This new boutique hotel is not only well located, it is a pampering experience from the moment you arrive to the time you check out.

A nice walk from the Fitzpatrick is the famed Broadway District. Strolling around Times Square is energizing with the gigantic billboards towering above and street artists and musicians entertaining you as you soak in this piece of cultural history.

Our first choice for a musical was The Lion King but it is sold out months in advance so we decided on The Scarlet Pimpernel instead and were not disappointed. I'm sure a show this well done will begin touring before too long. It's a great romantic tale for your romantic weekend.

You can pay an arm and a leg for a carriage ride through Central Park or you can take in the beauty at a slower pace by walking hand in hand (my recommendation).
Your weekend in New York doesn't have to take on the same pace as the city. Don't be too tempted to take the cabs everywhere. Much of the city is very safe and is best experienced on foot. Plus, the exercise is a great way to work off some of those fabulous meals you are bound to enjoy.
