Chandler's Restaurant at Yankee Candle

Chandler's at Yankee Candle Company - Click to Enlarge When people mention the Yankee Candle Company, most think only of the candle-making portion of the company. Unbeknownst to many, the Yankee Candle Company in South Deerfield is also home to one of the most romantic restaurants in Massachusetts.

Chandler's Restaurant, adjacent to the massive candle store, offers some wonderful food at reasonable prices. 

We visited the restaurant one Saturday evening at 5:30 p.m. Luckily, our server advised us the neighboring store was about the close. We had already placed our order for a few appetizers but they were gracious enough to hold them while we ran over for a quick peek. We had just enough time to buy the sunflower scented candle, which claims to be the strongest scented candle available. We were glad we were able to purchase one of their famous candles while on-site. Unfortunately, we were not able to visit the candle-making museum but will certainly make another trip when we have more time available. (Be sure to allow at least two hours to view everything at Yankee Candle before having dinner). 

When we returned, our server brought out Chandler's signature clam chowder ($4), a hearty, creamy base loaded with clams and massive chunks of potatoes. We also sampled the spinach and lobster risotto with cilantro lime ($12.50). This appetizer was a wonderful addition to the menu with just the right amount of tartness to complement the sweet chunks of lobster.

The cornmeal dusted jonah crab cake with Belgian endive slaw and pear vinaigrette ($8.50) looked appealing but we opted for the steamed mussels with garlic, white wine, tomato and basil ($8.50), a heaping bowl which was served with crusty garlic bread.

Choose among 10 entrees, which change each month. I selected the pan seared diver scallops and steamed lobster tail with angel hair pasta, julienned squash and chardonnay sauce ($24). The jumbo scallops were intricately placed around the cracked lobster tail, looking almost too good to eat. My husband was equally pleased with his selection - the grilled dry angus sirloin with roasted shallots ($25). The best part of his dinner was the lobster mashed potatoes - huge chunks of fresh lobster mixed into the creamiest potatoes we've tasted.

Other entrees included cassoulet of duck confit ($22), roast prime rib of beef ($21), exotic mushroom stuffed jumbo pork chop with risotto and maple glaze ($21) and poached Atlantic salmon ($21).

Chandler's is entirely illuminated by Yankee's infamous unscented candles. (The scented candles would have been too overwhelming, we were told).
