An Appealing Cornucopia of
Children's Books
Three for the Kids from Houghton
Mifflin
The Children's
Book Review
From one of the best of the best children's book
publishers in the world - Houghton Mifflin - comes a bevy of beauties:
"Move!,"
"Wow! It Sure Is Good To Be You!," "Flamingos
on the Roof," "Honky-Tonk Heroes and Hillbilly Angels," "Zany Zoo," "Bats
at the Beach," and "Song of the Water Boatman."
In these highly attractive illustrated works - there is something for
every youngster and the adults around them.
"Song of the Water Boatman" is $16.00 and is focused on the world of the
pond in poems. "Bats at the Beach," written and illustrated by Brian Lies
is a wondrously depicted world of bats that removes the frightening
qualities of this creature. "Zany Zoo" by William Wise with
illustrations by Lynn Munsinger is also $16.00 and is a skillful bringing
of an exotic menagerie to life.
"Wow! It Sure Is Good To Be You!" with words and images by Cynthia Jabar
is priced at $9.95 and is a little book with attitude showcasing girl
power.
"Move!" by Steve Jenkins and Robin Page, priced at $16.00, is an enticing
and entertaining intro to motion in the animal kingdom.
"Flamingos on the Roof" is replete with wondrous poems, paintings and
characters by Calef Brown. Priced at $16.00, it is a must for a child aged
5 or older.
"Honky-Tonk Heroes and Hillbilly Angels" at Houghton's favorite (it seems)
children's book price has pictures by Laura Levine and words by Holy
George- Warren and that same $16.00 price tag. The book is a super primer
on country western history and stars.
"The Ball Game of Life" by David Allen Smith and Joseph Aversa, Jr. (Acta
Sports, $9.95, 126 pages) is a primer of lessons geared to parents and
coaches of youthful baseball players.
"Junie B., First Grader" by Barbara Park and illustrated by Denise Brunkus
(Random House, $11.95, 119 pages) is billed as a work by one of America's
funniest authors. There is no argument with that billing here.
