MORE from Harcourt - Children's Books to cheer for
Lovely to look at, superb, enjoyable to the
touch and all in all a delight to give, own, browse through, have on
that special child's burgeoning bookshelf - - and all from Harcourt
who knows how to do it right.
“Mary Poppins in the Kitchen” is another classic
for all ages by P.L. Travers ($14.00, 80 pages) with special
drawings by Mary Shepard. It is billed as a cookery book with a
story and that it is. Just wonderful.
“Mary Poppins from A to Z” is another classic for
all ages by P.L. Travers ($14.00) with special drawings by Mary
Shepard who illustrated Mary Poppins books for more than half a
century and who passed away in 2000. As the title indicates, this is
a book that goes through the alphabet – and it does so charmingly,
intelligenty and with an educated eye.
For those looking for a “pop-up” book there is
“Charlie Chick” ($10.95) by Nick Denchfield and Ant Parker for ages
0 to 3. Enormous pop ups pop off the pages of this winning big book
about a special chick.
"Bow-Wow Bugs a Bug" by Mark Newgarden and Megan
Montague Cash ($12.95) beautifully illustrated, a kind of unreal or
surreal doggie story without words but with a lot of adventure.
Mom, dad, grandpa, grandma - put this and the others here on your
gift giving list - it's a winner.
