With Hertz - - Two
Weeks in Southern California
The plan was simple. Anything and any way that got us
away from the frigid northeast and into warmer climes.
A writing trip and stays at
super luxe places in southern California. Fourteen days and a rental of
a car from Hertz that evoked old memories and simpler times and seemed
perfectly suited to our California dreaming.
We flew from LaGuardia
Airport in New York City, Queens to be exact and landed at Los Angeles
Airport (LAX). Thankfully one of us had the Gold Card and paperwork
was completed swiftly and pleasantly by one of the women at the Hertz
It was a short walk
(thankfully, we had a lot of luggage) to the parking lot where we
located easily our Ford Mustang convertible. We were in California – why
not go Hollywood as much as we could go Hollywood. The car was in tip
top condition and spotless, and we were happy and off we went.
We put a lot of miles on
that Mustang - -all over L.A. Into the desert and through it to Palm
Springs. Down mountains roads into San Diego. The car was reliable,
powerful, perfect for our needs (except we had too much luggage and one
piece has to ride in the back seat). Then it was (sadly) back to Los
Angeles down the Pacific Highway.
At the Hertz Return Lot a
kindly employee noticed all the luggage we were schlepping. The thought
of the heavy lifting we would have to do to squeeze our way onto the
Hertz bus to the terminal had crossed our mind.
“Why don’t I give you folks
a life?” he smiled.
“Please do,” we said in unison.
And without further ado he
put the baggage carefully into a van that had just been returned. We got
in. He took us to our terminal and unloaded our bulging luggage.
A tip was offered, but he
declined it saying it was part of the special service of Hertz.
We managed to force some
cash on him, grateful that he had come along and grateful for that
special Hertz service.
That California dream trip
underscored why Hertz is Number One, Top Drawer.
