Twice Deceived blends history and drama
to tell a tale of art, intrigue, and deception, set agaset against the
backdrop of Paris in the 1920’s.
In 1906 Pablo Picasso painted the portrait of Gertrude
Stein, the renowned American author.
Enamored by the beauty of the work that she
commissioned a prominent Russian copyist to duplicate the painting so as
to have her portrait with her at all times.
After the author’s death, the original painting is
gifted to the Metropolitan Museum in New York. However, when examined by
experts, it seems that it was quite possibly the copy they received. A
team of specialists hunts down the ‘original’ in a village in central
France and brings it and the copy to Picasso for final approval.
But the artist declares that both may be duplicates.
It is revealed that Stein in fact commissioned a replica of her
portrait… and the original has vanished.
The team is sent on an investigation across Europe,
encountering members of Stein’s inner-circle ranging from Alice B.
Toklas in Paris to Diego Rivera in Mexico City. How they finally come to
find the true original painting is the secret of the double deception.

Arnie Greenberg is
a retired Montreal college Humanities professor who has written novels
and texts, as well as plays about Picasso and one about Gertrude Stein
and Hemingway, which was staged in Stuttgart Germany. He also worked for
the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, writing over 1,000 scripts,
mostly for young people. Mr. Greenberg has dedicated this book to the
late Dr. Robert Bartlett Haas, a long-time friend of Gertrude Stein and

Over the past few years, Professor
Greenberg has traveled with groups to France, Italy, Spain, Greece,
Budapest, Vienna, Salzburg, Prague and both Sorrento and the Bay of
Naples plus most of Sicily. His tours traveled to the far reaches of the
globe including Italy and most of
China (Beijing -Hong Kong) and to Russia where his group cruised the waters
from St.Petersburg to Moscow.
"He took a group to Greece and another to northern
Russia. In Nov 07 he took a tour group to much of India and ended his tour
groups by revisiting France. He now travels with his wife and friends. They
winter in Argentina or San Miguel Mexico. His newly found spare time
is taken up with his painting and writing. "I must write every day." His
current work is a cautionary manual for would-be tour leaders.. "So
You Want To Be A Tour Leader."
Arnie now travels with friends. He continues writing
Travel articles about unusual places but often concentrates on novel
writing. Two books based on French Art will be published this year.
